The National Saxophone Ensemble (NSE) was established in 2007 in response to the growing popularity of the National Saxophone Choir, when it became obvious that there was a far greater demand for first-class, large-scale ensemble playing than could be accommodated in the original Choir alone.

The Ensemble operates with the same co-operative ethos and same versatile, open-minded approach to music as the NSC. NSE and NSC rehearsals are run in parallel and the two groups regularly meet for a joint blow, but the NSE is rapidly developing its own musical identity under the leadership of Musical Director Chris Gumbley and has an independent repertoire and own concert programme. There may be opportunities to move between the two groups as vacancies arise.
The Ensemble is a young organization which provides an opportunity for members to shape its future. If you are Grade 8 standard or the equivalent, have a committed approach to your music and performance and would like to join the NSE, check out the audition requirements, or contact us using the form at the bottom of the page.
