The National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain is delighted to report that the University of St Andrews is part-funding Richard Ingham (pictured above) in his role as the Choir's Principal Guest Conductor.
Richard has seen the NSC come of age: he was the conductor when Choir and MD/soprillo soloist Nigel Wood received a standing ovation at the 2006 World Saxophone Congress, and with Nigel, he has directed the players in concerts, festivals and street performances in the UK and across the world from China to Prague. He is one of the Choir's 'saxperts' (leading players who give specialist workshops) and is very active in leading the educational workshops the Choir provides. Richard is one of three NSC trustees.
As he explains, Richard's role at St Andrews has also expanded:
"After 14 years as Visiting Professor of Jazz, I have recently been appointed Visiting Professor of Music at the University of St Andrews. This role incorporates direction of my existing Jazz Certificate and Jazz Diploma courses, along with an expansion into a third year course. This academic year will also feature jazz courses for performers and teachers in Stornoway, Western Isles. The new post includes commissions from the university for several new works - viola solo, narrator and jazz ensemble, brass ensemble, and orchestra. The orchestral work will be incorporated into the celebrations for the 600th anniversary of the university in 2012."
Richard has relocated to Scotland, and the University's sponsorship will help meet travel costs between his new home and Choir events around the country. "It's wonderful news", says Nigel. "St Andrews is not only giving us a generous contribution to costs, but also cementing our relationship with Richard, and underlining the fact that we're a truly national Choir."

The National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain is a lively, talented and enterprising ensemble of saxophonists committed to presenting challenging but accessible music to as wide an audience as possible.
The NSC was founded by Nigel Wood in 2003. It has already made a big impact on the saxophonic world and currently attracts players and guest conductors from all over the country to its monthly rehearsals at the DanceXchange in the Birmingham Hippodrome.

Standards are rigorously maintained by audition but the ethos is friendly, co-operative and adventurous.
